The island is accessible by ferry boat and airplane. Both Mackinaw City and St. Ignace, communities located at the south and north end of the Mackinac Bridge, provide frequently scheduled ferry service to and from the island.

Air service is available from St. Ignace and Pellston to the paved air strip on the island.
